With his zero budget, maximum hype film – Paranormal Activity making huge waves throughout the U.S. and in online communities, writer/director Oren Peli has been signed on for another project – AREA 51.
Peli starts production on the project next week, which will see him employ the same “Blair Witch” technique used in Paranormal, but with a more inflated budget – one that reaches the dizzying heights of $5 million, which, when compared of Paranormal’s $11,000 price tag must seem like a phenomenal hike in the right direction!
The story will see three curious teens head into the Nevada Desert to uncover the mysteries of the Nellis Air Force Base and Area 51, only for the group to mysteriously dissappear before the footage is found and shown to the world. Returning as producer is Jason Blum, who produced “Paranormal Activity” through his Blumhouse Prods. banner. Room 101’s Steven Schneider and IM Global topper Stuart Ford are executive producers.
“I’d rather not say anything about ‘Area 51′ except that I am very pleased to be working with the same team who stood by me for the two or three years it took ‘Paranormal Activity’ to get into theaters,” Peli said.
No word yet on a release date for the project.
