“New Moon” movie in “Twilight” saga gives vampires blood-red eyes

When the citizenry of small town Bon Temps in HBO’s vampire series “True Blood” are up to no good, their eyes turn an opaque black.

In the movie “New Moon,” the second installment in Stephenie Meyer’s popular vampire “Twilight” saga, director Chris Weitz has given the aristocratic vampire clan called the Volturi custom-crafted blood-red eyes.

“They’re all hand-painted, specially manufactured contacts,” Weitz tells people.com. “They’re opaque red, almost like preying mantis eyes. You can’t really see into them.”

“New Moon,” due out Nov. 20, also features Dakota Fanning as Jane, an angelic-looking Volturi vampire who inflicts physical torture on her victims.

Mexican beauty Salma Hayek may be known for her feminine curves, but the actress will now be seen sporting a big hairy moustache and beard for her upcoming film ‘Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant’.

The ‘Frida’ star is playing the role of Madame Truska in the new film which follows a young boy who meets a mysterious man at a freak show who turns out to be a vampire, Mirror online reported.

The film will be helmed by Paul Weitz who is famous for works like ‘American Pie’ and Hugh Grant starrer ‘About A Boy’.

‘Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant’ will hit the screens on October 23.

Catalina Sandino Moreno Joins ‘Eclipse’ Cast

Colombian actress Catalina Sandino Moreno has signed on to play Maria in “Eclipse,” the third film in “The Twilight Saga” that’s set to begin filming in less than a week. The Oscar-nominated star of “Maria Full of Grace,” 2004′s drama about a pregnant teenage drug mule, will tackle some decidedly less heavy subject matter a vampire who creates an army of newborn bloodsuckers, including future Cullen family member and then-Confederate soldier Jasper Hale (Jackson Rathbone). Jasper becomes a key member of the army, helping Maria conquer Mexican territories.

 Though “Twilight” covered the back story of swoon-worthy teen vampire Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), “Eclipse” delves deeper into the pasts of the rest of his vampire coven. On Wednesday, Jack Huston was announced as Royce King II, the human fiancé of Rosalie (Nikki Reed) who plays a key role in her transformation into a vampire.

 Huston and Moreno, who was last seen in 2008′s two-part Steven Soderbergh epic, “Che,” are the latest additions to an ever-expanding cast. Summit Entertainment made headlines last month when they announced the controversial decision to replace Rachelle Lefevre with Bryce Dallas Howard as Victoria, a vampire hell-bent on getting revenge on Edward and his human paramour Bella for killing her partner, James. Xavier Samuel and Jodelle Ferland have been cast as Victoria’s newborn vampires Riley and Bree.

 The David Slade-directed “Eclipse” is set to be released next June. Chris Weitz’s installment, “New Moon,” the second film in the series, will hit theaters on November 20. Ron Perlman in Bubba Nosferatu: Curse of the She-Vampires

Ron Perlman, speaking with Fangoria Radio, gave the world an update on his long-gestating follow-up to Don Coscarelli’s Bubba Ho-Tep. In the new film Bubba Nosferatu: Curse of the She-Vampires, Perlman will be replacing Bruce Campbell as Elvis in what is sure to be an over-the-top adventure unlike anything we’ve ever seen.

Perlman hopes to shoot the film in the fall, stating, “Well, I have this window that’s about to open. I’ll be done shooting Sons of Anarchy in September, and we’re hoping to get into production on Bubba Nosferatu: Curse of the She-Vampires in my hiatus between seasons two and three. I just spoke to Paul Giamatti (set to play Elvis’ manager, Colonel Tom Parker) and Don Coscarelli this morning, and we’re just moving the ball down the field, trying to get her done.”

Also reported in the same story is that Don Coscarelli’s favorite actor, and star of his Phantasm films, Angus Scrimm has joined the cast as a Boris Karloff-like horror star who Elvis meets on the set of a vampire movie.

About starring in the film, Perlman stated, “Elvis is so iconic because there was never anyone like him and never since. Elvis created an entire new place for that image. He’s so iconic, he’s mythic. I’m very titillated to see what it’s gonna be like to be inside the white jumpsuit.” The sequel currently has a proposed release date of 2011.
